Soil temperature instruments produce continuous time series of shallow subsurface temperature. These datasets help quantify thermal fluxes and identify transient events that may precede changes in volcanic activity.

Thermal Flux Indicators

Data products that quantify heat flow variations and identify transient events.
Soil probes were deployed at two sites at Okmok (OKNC and OKCE), and one site at Poás (VPPC).
  • OKNC: A pair of temperature, conductivity, and moisture probes at shallow (~0.5 m) and deep (~3 m) depths.
  • OKCE: A pair of temperature, conductivity, and moisture probes at shallow (~0.5 m) and deep (~3 m) depths, and a Vaisala GMP343 CO2 probe.
  • VPPC: A single Vaisala GMP343 CO2 probe.
The data for the soil probes deployed at Okmok are hosted by the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO). Raw data can be visualised and downloaded from their webpage.
