Location: Southern flank of Cleveland volcano, Alaska
Installation Date: September 2022 (AVERT project)
Instrumentation:
- Tallysman VeraChoke 6100 GNSS antenna
- AlertGeomatics Resolute Polar receiver
- Shallow-drilled braced monument (most common type)
Data Collection:
- Position data recorded at two rates: 30 s (standard) and 1 s (high rate)
- High-rate data only telemetered during events of specific interest to minimize bandwidth consumption
Network Role:
- Part of the permanent GNSS network at Cleveland volcano
- Helps clarify whether there is observable deformation prior to eruptions
- Prior to this network, potential deformation was below the spatial/temporal resolution of remote sensing methods
Site Characteristics:
- Located on the Islands of Four Mountains in the central Aleutian Arc
- “Open-vent” volcano with persistent gas plume
- Little-to-no evidence of pre-eruptive deformation historically
- Site equipped with radome to protect from elements
